Holy Cow this was so yummy!! Taqueria La Parrilla was such a find for me yesterday in Athens Georgia. I was visiting Kate at the University of Georgia for the afternoon and we wanted to have lunch together. Kate has been to this Mexican restaurant before and noticed on the menu they stated “Rice and Beans are 100% gluten free and vegan”! So we thought it was worth a try for me to go next time I was in town. Our server Cecilia was so patient with my questions and knowledgeable about gluten and cross contamination. I was so hopeful I wouldn’t get sick. So I looked through the extensive menu and it seemed the possibilities were endless! Well, they were! How exciting to find out they have a dedicated fryer where their chips are cooked!
Their meats all have a fajita seasoning on it that does have gluten in it. However, all you need to do is request the meat to be grilled “without seasoning”. So there you go, delicious Mexican food with shrimp, beef and chicken just waiting for you to be prepared gluten free! They even have a designated area for prepping gluten free food as well as cooking on the grill. See what I mean? They are so on it! I decided to have the lunch special of steak fajitas served with corn tortillas, grilled peppers and onions, refried beans, rice and a guacamole salad. By the way, their salsa is so good! And no lunch time portions. There was so much food, I couldn’t eat it all!

This location of Taqueria La Parrilla is in Athens on Gaines School Road. I would highly suggest it. It’s now the morning after eating there and hurrah…..I did not get sick! I can’t wait to go back the next time I have a hankering for Mexican. It really was delicious! If you’re like me and you love Mexican food, you will not be disappointed at Taqueria La Parrilla. I’m excited to have another safe place to eat!
